Construction of the Darby Island Research Station! November 2008 to June 2009

After much deliberation, the location for the new lab was set- it would be built in the dock area, north of the caretaker house. Materials were shipped to Darby by mailboat, and construction began in November 2008. The exterior of the lab would be a Quonset hut, but this metal structure was framed inside with wood. Tony Estes and crew had the hut standing by Christmas. Wendall Mckenzie and grandson Davinci took over the job early in the New Year. Cruiser Pete Dawson on M/V Scooter helped with the initial installation of our solar electric system. By June, the Darby Island Research Station was mostly functional!
